Arizona Coyotes Report Card: Forwards

Arizona Coyotes grades for the forwards –

As usual in any hockey season, any given NHL roster is going to have its surprises and it’s disappointments.  The Arizona Coyotes are no exception.  The Arizona Coyotes forward group in the first quarter of the season have been very inconsistent.

Shane Doan, Mikkel Boedker, Martin Hanzal, and Antoine Vermette have been pretty solid but have also had some bumps in the road.  Sam Gagner, after a slow start is starting to get acclimated to his new team and should be more of a factor the rest of the way.  This team needs help up front to take the scoring burden off the ageless Shane Doan.  He shouldn’t be required to carry the mail at this stage of his career but he still does.  The Captain needs some help!

Shane Doan has been the Phoenix Coyotes best and most consistent player through 21 games.

After a slow start Shane Doan is still the undisputed leader of this team!

At the time of this “Report Card”, the Arizona Coyotes record was 8-10-2 and I feel these grades accurately reflect their play … in my opinion.  Please feel free to add your grades or opinions on any player/players you feel I have over-rated or short-changed.  Please feel free to comment below.

I assign two grades; first (hockey grade) is just strictly what you see is what you get and the second (ROI) is weighed against salary or “bang for your buck”.

Defencemen, goaltenders and special teams tomorrow.

  1. I agree with your grading. Mostly 3 and 4 line players trying to compete with top 6 forwards.
My original thought the Yotes must go 10- 5 in November . Well they have a losing record in November 5-9-1. No playoffs this season .
Year two ( another money losing season)of the 5 year deadline to be profitable or relocation is open.
Does the team owners continue to put money and effort into changing the culture of losing both money and games or relocate ? Tough choice

If you look at the season in 10 game segments it doesn’t look as daunting …. but they need to pick up the pace and play flawless hockey at home. Their second half schedule is a little better … so???

  2. Mike Bodner says:

    Agree w/ Most… Erat – B, Joey V B, Klotheshamper F, Moss F,
If I could give below an F for Moss and Klothsehamper I would. Both are passengers and need to go

    • Mitch Kasprick says:

Moss and a couple others are just place-holders for the young guys like Max Domi & Henrik Samuelsson, Perlini etc … they’ll be gone sooner than later
