Arizona Sundogs Take Two Of Three Games vs The Brampton Beast This Week —

Jason Morgan gave the Arizona Sundogs a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Brampton Beast when he scored 4:35 into the extra period Saturday night at Tim’s Toyota Center.

Arizona overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory.  The Arizona Sundogs fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Brampton’s Jason Pitton  at 11:20 in the third period.  Arizona tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kevin Baker at 15:44 in the third period.

Morgan had a great game for the Sundogs, netting two goals.

Arizona racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time.  The Sundogs surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game.  Arizona cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances.  With 34 shots on target during the contest, the Arizona Sundogs exceeded the 21.0 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona additionally got points from Baker, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points.  Garrett Clarke also scored for Arizona.  In addition, Arizona received assists from Ian Schultz , who had two and Matt McCready, Bryan Cameron and Alex Velischek, who contributed one a piece.

The Beast were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 27 minutes in penalty time.  The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Brampton had been spending in the box.  The Beast’s offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.0 shots per game they average.

Olympic Night At Tim’s Toyota Center 

In honor of the upcoming Olympic Ice Hockey competition the Brampton Beast wore Team Canada Jerseys and the Arizona Sundogs wore Team USA jerseys.  The Team USA jerseys were auctioned off at the completion of Saturday night’s game.

Brampton was led by Scotty Howes, who had two goals and one assist.  Howes scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brampton.  The Beast earned a power play opportunity when David Rutherford was put in the box for roughing. Pitton assisted on the tally.  Howes’ next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Brampton with 3:08 left in the second period.  Brampton had gotten the advantage when Arizona’s Michael Trebish was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Steve Makway provided the assist.  Brampton also got points from Pitton, who also racked up one goal and one assist.  More assists for Brampton came via Matt Caruana, Steve Ward and Jamie VanderVeeken, who each chipped in one.

Andrew Engelage rejected 33 shots on goal for the Sundogs.  Kristofer Westblom recorded 30 saves for the Beast.  Brampton registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
