The Arizona Sundogs sign defenseman Ryan Gaucher ….

The Arizona Sundogs announced today, they signed defenseman Ryan Gaucher for their upcoming 2013-14 Central Hockey League Season.

Gaucher PhotoGaucher 35, spent the past seven seasons playing overseas in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Italy.  Last season while in Italy, Gaucher played in 40 games where he tallied 14 goals, 26 assists for 40 points.  His contributions during the season helped advanced his team to the playoffs where he put up 11 points in nine games.

The 5-foot-10, Saskatoon native has proven to be a leading defenseman earning the most points (46) and assists (41) by a defenseman in 2007-08 and again in 2009-10 with 43 points and 32 assists.  In 2005-06 he was voted the East Coast Hockey League’s (ECHL) “Defenseman of the Year” while playing for the Alaska Aces.  Later that season the Aces advanced to the playoffs where they eventually won the ECHL Kelly Cup Championship.

“Ryan is a proven defenseman that puts up offensive numbers and has the skills to make us better immediately.  He’s a veteran player that has a winning attitude”, said Arizona Sundogs Head Coach, Kevin Colley.

Gaucher has played majority of his games in the United States for such teams as the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, Cleveland Barons, Norfolk Admirals and the Providence Bruins all of the American Hockey League (AHL).  He also played for ECHL teams, Louisiana IceGators, Mississippi Sea Wolves, Toledo Storm, Cincinnati Cyclones, Florence Pride, Las Vegas Wranglers and the Alaska Aces.  Over the span of his career Gaucher has played in 710 games and collected 134 goals and 423 assists for 557 points.
