Tulsa Defeats The Arizona Sundogs 9 – 4 In Game One —

The Arizona Sundogs stumbled in a 9-4 loss against the Tulsa Oilers Friday night at the BOK Center suffering quite an upset.

Heading into the first intermission the Arizona Sundogs led after picking up two goals in the opening period.  The Oilers kicked off the scoring while on the power play 3:56 into the period with a goal from Michel Beausoleil after Garrett Clarke was accessed two minutes for high sticking.  A minute later Arizona’s Kevin Baker put the Sundogs on the board with a feed from Matt McCready and 20 seconds later Mark Isherwood scored with assists from Clarke and Johan Ryd.

The second period proved to be the game changer for Arizona after Tulsa collected four goals in the middle period.  The Oilers scored three unanswered goals, first when Matt Ambroz scored 12:21 into the second, poking the puck off the tip of Justin Pender’s stick and right through the legs of Sundogs goaltender, Chris Rawlings. 1:04 later and Ben Gordon ripped the puck and Adam Pleskach posted their third goal in under four minutes.  The Sundogs responded, scoring while on the man-advantage when McCready launched the puck through traffic, giving the Sundogs their third goal.  The Oilers quickly responded posting their fourth goal of the period and their fifth of the night.

Arizona’s, Rawlings gave up three more goals in the final period before Head Coach, Kevin Colley elected to pull him and send in relief goalie Andrew Engelage.  Ryan Menei collected a hat trick, scoring two more goals in the third. Todd Robinson and Drew Fisher also tallied goals for the Oilers pushing them to a victory.  Mark Isherwood posted one last goal for the Sundogs while on a 5-on-3 power play resulting in a final score of 9-4.

Arizona outshot Tulsa 22-21 and the Sundogs were 2-7 on the power play while the Oilers were 1-6. Round two is set for tomorrow when the action starts at 6:35pm at the BOK Center.

The Arizona Sundogs End Tulsa Oilers Five Game Winning Streak

The Arizona Sundogs ended the Tulsa Oilers five game winning streak Saturday night with a 4-2 win at the BOK Center. The Arizona Sundogs leading goal scorer, Kevin Baker tallied four points.  The Sundogs are in a three way tie for sixth place, with 51 points.

Arizona came out ready for action posting two goals in the opening period, both tallied by Bryan Cameron.  Cameron’s first came 14:48 with a pass from Kevin Baker when he lifted the puck past the glove side of Tulsa’s goalie Brad Fogal.  Cameron’s second goal came 3:06 later from Baker and Jason Morgan.  Early in the second period Garrett Clarke received a scoring opportunity when he was tripped on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot which was unsuccessful.  With under three minutes remaining in the second, Tulsa’s Ben Gordon solved Andrew Engelage to close their two goal gap heading into the final period.

The Sundogs took advantage of the power play after Scott Macaulay was issued two minutes for tripping and Baker came in with the goal 2:07 into the third period.  The Oilers once again cut the Sundogs lead by one goal when Blair Macaulay scored on a breakaway and with 58 seconds remaining in regulation Sebastian Geoffrion scored an empty net goal pushing the Sundogs to a 4-2 win.  Baker collected four points while Cameron and Morgan each posted two apiece.

Andrew Engelage stood tall between the pipes making 20 saves.  The Sundogs outshot the Oilers 31-22. Arizona was 1-5 on the man-advantage while Tulsa was 0-2.

Both teams will head on the road where they will continue their four game series at Tim’s Toyota Center on Tuesday and Wednesday when the puck drops at 6:35pm.
