Dec.1 Random Notes On Our Yotes

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some of my thoughts, some info and notes from the past week about our Arizona Coyotes and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes went 3-0-0 last week and swept their 3 games in 4 nights home-stand and finished the month of November with a 8-4-0 record.

2.  Congrats to Dave Tippett on his getting his 500th win as a NHL head coach after the Coyotes defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1 in OT on Friday night.

3.  Antoine Vermette has finally started to look like the Antoine Vermette of old. Welcome back.

4.  Mikkel Boedker set a franchise record for recording two hat-tricks versus the same team in one season when he scored three goals against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.  He turned the trick earlier in the season in Ottawa on October 24.

5.  Congrats to Dustin Jeffrey on scoring his first goal with the Arizona Coyotes.

6.  The Yotes are off on another five game road trip and then they can settle in to a nice seven games out of  eight at home for the rest of December.  If the Coyotes can snag 5 or 6 points on this trip, they should still be in a good position in the Pacific Division when they return.

7.  Pet Peave:  The four idiots dressed in stripes would rather trip over a broken stick than pick it up.  I’ve seen a broken stick lay in pieces on the ice for 2-minutes shifts without being picked up.  So much for player safety!  I remember when linesmen would bust their ass to pick up a broken stick.  That’s Gary’s new NHL.

8.  Some idiot in Montreal actually suggested that the Coyotes should trade Mikkel Boedker for the Canadiens Lars Eller!  Ya OKAY !!!!!

9.  Attendance update:

Anaheim – 11,578

Calgary – 11,495

Ottawa – 12,727

Not good enough my friends.  We have a young exciting team and we need to get out and support them.  These attendance figures are embarrassing.

10.  It was nice to get Nicklas Grossman back in the line-up and it looks like Shane Doan will be ready for the road trip.  Yotes need all hands on deck.

11.  Oliver Ekman-Larsson definitely has a knack for scoring big goals.  With his GWG in overtime versus the Calgary Flames on Friday night, he now has 19 GWG in his career.  This is a pretty impressive career number for any defenceman and even more impressive when you factor in that OEL is only in his sixth NHL season.  WOW

12.   Arizona Coyotes prospect and London Knights forward Christian Dvorak was named the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 29th.  He scored six goals and had three assists for nine points in three games.  Well done.

13.  Connor Murphy continues to frustrate me.  He is either really good or really bad.  There seems to be no middle ground with him.  If he can just level out his performance and be more consistent, he could have a long career in the NHL.

14.  Arizona Coyotes special teams update:

PP:  28th at 14.9% down from 25th at 15.0% last week.

PK:  12 at 81.1 down from 10th at 83.3% last week.

15.  Countdown to the 2016 World Cup:  293 days (Sept. 17-Oct. 1 in Toronto).  How many Coyotes do you think will be in this tournament?

Arizona Hockey Talk is looking for Arizona Coyotes, ASU Sun Devils, and local minor hockey writers.  If you or somebody you know is interested, please contact us.

LET’S GO YOTES

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.

Thanks, Mitch

  1. Agree 100% about the attendance.
The team is now doing their part..
Remember that people were crowing about the team having to win for attendance to go up..
    Well…….Calling all fans!
My bet is..these people ARE NOT fans.
They may know all about Corsi, HERO and all the advanced stats..but they aren’t fans of NHL hockey in their city.
So, you “Fans” who don’t go to the games…Prove me wrong.
You see the problem. Be a part of fixing the problem.
Im not counting on you though. (Not you Mitch..I meant “you as in the phony fans who know Corsi, HERO but don’t show up where it counts.)

    • Mitch Kasprick says:

I bet the new ownership group is disappointed … the fans need to start coming out and it wouldn’t hurt if the local TV stations would show more than their obligatory 10 seconds of coverage per week.
