Dec. 28 Random Notes On Our Yotes

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some of my thoughts, some info, and notes from the past week about our Arizona Coyotes and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes played three games this past week going 2-0-1 and now have an overall record of 17-15-3 and are second in the Pacific Division.

2.  I know this 3 on 3 overtime is new to everybody BUT some of players Dave Tippett puts out for OT makes me shake my head at times but I guess he has his reasons.

3.  The Yotes signed their 2015, 5th round pick, Conor Garland to a three-year entry-level contract.  He currently leads the QMJHL with 80 points in 33 games.

4.  The Coyotes snagged 3 hard earned points this weekend winning one and losing one in 3 on 3 overtime.  Mikkel Boedker’s game winner versus the Avalanche on Sunday night was a beauty.

5.  The Arizona Coyotes lead all NHL teams with seven prospects participating in the 2015-16 World Junior Hockey Championships in Finland.  They are forwards Brendan Perlini and Dylan Strome for Canada; forwards Christian Dvorak and Ryan MacInnis for USA; and goalie Erik Kallgren along with forwards Anton Karlsson and Jens Looke for Sweden.

6.  Would it be an understatement to say that Yotes goaltender Anders Lindback really needed that win in Colorado Sunday night?

7.  It didn’t take Viktor Tikhonov long to gain the trust of Head Coach Dave Tippett.  He’s playing in a lot of important situations.

8.  Sometimes, I think OEL spent too much time watching Keith Yandle.  Every once in awhile, he has a Yandle-like brain cramp.

9.  Attendance update:

Toronto Maple Leafs – 12,234

Los Angeles Kings – 15,277

The attendance this past week was marginally better but considering a divisional rival (Los Angeles) was in town on the weekend after Christmas this game should have been a sellout no questions asked.

10.  Mikkel Boedker had a nice weekend with 2 goals and 3 assists making his fantasy owners very happy.  BTW, I have him in two leagues.

11.  It was nice to see the “Captain” pot a couple goals against the Leafs last week.

12.  Time for some honesty Yotes fans.  How many of you thought the Yotes would be relevant in the standings approaching the mid-point of the season? (see #1)

13.  Arizona Coyotes special teams update:

PP:  28th at 15.7% down from 27th at 14.90% last week.

PK:  18th at 80.3% down from 12th at 81.90% last week.

14.  Countdown to the 2016 World Cup:  265 days (Sept. 17-Oct. 1 in Toronto).  How many Coyotes do you think will be in this tournament?

15.  The next time we get together it will be 2016 so I hope all of you and all of our favorite sports teams have terrific new year.

  1. Again, agree on attendance and am very anxious that improvement is at hand with the improving times .
Very disheartened at the Phoenix Spirts fan.
I have only been a STH for the past 3 seasons so some of the detail eludes me, but so far I think Tik hasn’t looked that good and Dahlbeck has been under appreciated
Domi, my favorite player seems to skate too fast for the puck and can’t control it
As soon as he works that out
    Watch out!!!!
