Offensive Buzzwords

Ivan Provorov has a very good skill-set and would be considered an offensive defenceman but he plays a very solid two-way game.  He likes to join the rush if he isn’t the one that’s leading the rush.  He pushes the play up the ice and excels in the transition game.  Provorov is very poised when he has the puck, sees the ice very well, and uses his team-mates very effectively.

Ivan Provorov has a very good shot and is not afraid to use it.  His passing and shooting ability also make him very dangerous on the PP.

Skating

Ivan Provorov is very good skater, with good speed, agility and a deceptive change of pace.  Provorov’s skating ability allows him to create scoring opportunities off the rush and to recover quickly on the defensive side of the game as well.

Defensive Buzzwords

Ivan Provorov’s defensive game is very solid.  He competes hard in the corners and in front of his net.  He makes good decisions in his own end and can make a good breakout pass or skate the puck out of danger.  His defensive game is not an issue and is still improving.

Prospect Analysis

Ivan Provorov projects as a solid two-way defenceman that can play the point on the powerplay yet still be able to play in a shutdown role.  When you combine his above average skill-set with intangibles like hockey sense, poise, and compete level he could be the first defenceman selected in this years draft.  He had a very impressive rookie season in the tough WHL where he posted 61 points in 60 games.  A definite top 10 pick.

Projected:  #5 – #8
