Jan. 11 Random Notes On Our Yotes

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some of my thoughts, some info, and notes from the past week about our Arizona Coyotes and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes played three games last week going 3-0-0 and now have an overall record of 21-16-4 and are second in the Pacific Division.

2.  Don’t forget Coyotes fans, the start time for Saturday’s game versus the NEW JERSEY DEVILS has been changed to 12:00 due to the Cardinals playoff game Saturday night.

3.  Saturday night’s game versus the Nashville Predators was the first of SEVEN straight home games.  This is a terrific opportunity for the Yotes to solidify their hold on their current playoff position, SO GET TO GILA RIVER ARENA AND SUPPORT YOUR TEAM!

4.  So the NHL has filled out the rosters for the All-Star game and the only Coyotes player going will be John Scott who was the butt of a joke by a  bunch of idiots that voted him in and now a couple of worthy players will not be going. Ha-Ha … not funny!

5.  The Yotes had a very successful 3-game road trip through Western Canada, garnering 5 out of a possible 6 points.

6.  A belated CONGRATS to the captain.  Doaner was named the “NHL’s Second Star of the Week” for the week ending Jan. 3. (how did I miss this last week?)

7.  I love the Loooou chants at the games when he makes a big save.  It reminds me of Duuuub, last year.

8.  Steve Downie seems to be the odd man out right now but I wouldn’t be writing him off yet.  I like his presence in the lineup.  He adds some grit and attitude that the Yotes need when they play tough teams like L.A. and so on.

9.  Attendance update:

Nashville Predators – 12,345

The Coyotes only had one home game last week after returning home from their successful 3-game road trip and had a disappointing crowd for a Saturday night.

10.  Martin Hanzal makes a HUGE difference on the Coyotes PP when he is in the line-up.  He is terrific at causing havoc in front of the opposition net.

11.  Congrats to rookie Laurent Dauphin.  He scored his first NHL goal on Monday night (Jan. 4) in a 3-2 Arizona win over the Vancouver Canucks.  It was only his third NHL game.  Dauphin has since been reassigned to the Yotes AHL affiliate in Springfield.

12.  Richardson, Doan, and Martinook have played very well together and have become a very solid third line.

13.  Arizona Coyotes special teams update:

PP:  24th at 16.8% up from 28th at 15.7% last week.

PK:  21st at 79.0% down from 18th at 80.3% last week.

14.  Countdown to the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline:  50 days (Feb. 29)

I don’t think the Coyotes will be sellers this year!

15.  Countdown to the 2016 World Cup:  251 days (Sept. 17-Oct. 1 in Toronto). How many Coyotes do you think will be in this tournament?  Hanzal?  OEL? Domi?  Duclair?  Boedker?

Arizona Hockey Talk is looking for Arizona Coyotes, ASU Sun Devils, and local minor hockey writers.  If you or somebody you know is interested, please contact us.

LET’S GO YOTES

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.

Thanks, Mitch

  1. Nearly 6000 empty seats for that game last night!!!!
One of the most exciting games that I have EVER seen
    In ANY sport
    To he– with this city
Bandwagon fans and chicken poops who whine about a little drive…..
I’m sorry players and coaches that so many empty seats watched that effort last night!
Where are the owners and why don’t they put hockey fans in the valley that this IS NOT acceptable?
