Nov. 17 Random Notes On Our Yotes

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some of my thoughts, some info and notes from the past week about our Arizona Coyotes and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes had a nice week going 3-1-0 with back to back road wins in California vs the Ducks and Kings.

2.  Is it just me or does Zbynek Michalek look a little off early on this season?

3.  It was nice to see Brad Richardson and the 3rd line contribute on the scoreboard last week.  The Coyotes and all hockey teams really rely on secondary scoring for success.  Everybody needs to kick in.

4.  Dave Tippett will be an assistant coach for Team North America in next fall’s World Cup of Hockey in Toronto.  Todd McLellan (Edmonton) will be the Head Coach along with assistants Jon Cooper (Tampa Bay ), Peter DeBoer (San Jose Sharks), and Jay Woodcroft (Edmonton Oilers).

5.  It really bugs me when the miked-up officials announcing the penalties over the PA system in NHL rinks still say “Phoenix Coyotes penalty”.  C’MON MAN!  I guess old habits die hard.

6.  Attendance Update:  Only one home game last week, but the Coyotes had a very good mid-week crowd of 15,545.  It’s too bad Connor McDavid was injured for the Oilers because this game would have probably been a sellout.

 7.  I hate to rag on officiating and I always say it doesn’t really affect the outcome of most hockey games and I wouldn’t do it blah blah blah BUT the referees in that Yotes/Blue Jackets game last week were absolutely HORRIBLE! AND yes, I do believe the NHL has an officiating problem.  I watch hockey every night and all teams in the NHL are getting screwed by sub-standard officials on a nightly basis.  There, I’m done!

8.  I know I have mentioned this before but how in the world could the Edmonton Oilers have given up on Tobias Rieder?

9.  Martin Hanzal is finally off the schneid by scoring a couple of big goals against the L.A. Kings in a 3-2 win!

10.  BTW, Team North America will be comprised of the best players 23 years old and under from Canada and the U.S.A.  (see#4)

11.  Stephan Elliot is starting to look a lot more comfortable on the Coyotes blueline.  Maybe I was wrong about him?

12.  All the readers out there that know me, know how I agonize over Jets/Coyotes games, and we have one next Saturday night.

My rule of thumb is I hope for OT so they both teams get at least one point and the extra point goes to the team that needs it the most.  I think the Jets might need this one a little more than the Yotes right now.

13.  Arizona Coyotes PP:  28th at 12.5% up from 30th at 11.3% last week.

14.  Arizona Coyotes PK:  13th at 80.9% down from 10th at 84.0% last week

15.  Countdown to the 2016 World Cup:  307 days (Sept. 17-Oct. 1 in Toronto).  How many Coyotes do you think will be in this tournament?

Arizona Hockey Talk is looking for Arizona Coyotes, ASU Sun Devils, and local minor hockey writers.  If you or somebody you know is interested, please contact us.

LET’S GO YOTES

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.
