Nov. 24 Random Notes On Our Yotes

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some of my thoughts, some info and notes from the past week about our Arizona Coyotes and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes had a went 1-2-0 last week and finished their four game road trip with a 1-3-0 record.

2.  Starting Wednesday night versus the Anaheim Ducks, the Coyotes have a stretch of 11 games out of their next 17 at home through the month of December.  The Yotes are in pretty good shape in the Western Conference playoff race and now it’s time to make hay at home.

3.  It’s time for Antoine Vermette to wake up from his Stanley Cup hangover.  He’s off to a real slow start and the Yotes need him to get back to normal.

4.  Right now, the Arizona Coyotes have seven players on pace to get 40 points or more including Captain Shane Doan.  That’s a far cry from last season.

5.  Apparently, Mike Smith was injured in their 3-2 win in Montreal last week but it’s not considered serious enough to keep him out of the line-up for an extended period.  That is good news as he’s been pretty solid lately.

6.  We are basically at the quarter-pole of the 2015-16 NHL season and the kids seem to be holding up pretty well, especially Max Domi and Anthony Duclair.

7.  Can anybody remember the last time the Coyotes played back to back home games and 3 games in 4 nights at home?  That’s a lot of gas being burnt for us driving to and from San Tan Valley this week.  Oh well.

Note:  The Coyotes will be wearing their black Kachina style jerseys on November 27 versus the Calgary Flames.

8.  So, who’s the odd man out on the Yotes blueline when Nicklas Grossman returns from his injury?

9.  Right now, Martin Hanzal is playing his best hockey in a Coyotes uniform and he is leading the team in scoring with 4 goals and 14 assists in 18 games.  Now if he can just stay healthy for a whole season.  Touch wood.

10.  I’m still not a big fan of Mikkel Boedker playing the point on the PP but I’m willing to see how this plays out for awhile longer.

11.  Sportsnet in Canada did a wonderful feature on Shane Doan so if you haven’t seen it, check it out here.  Run-time is 5:02

12.  Apparently, Shane Doan’s collision with Jets Ondrej Pavelec on Saturday night resulted in a significant knee injury that could keep the Winnipeg goaltender out of the line-up until January or February.  Although he was pushed from behind my defenceman Mark Stuart, there has been a lot of debate as to whether the hit was intentional or not.

13.  Does anybody actually believe that Mikkel Boedker is 6′ and Max Domi is 5’10 inches tall?  Why do they lie?  Does anybody really care?

14.  Arizona Coyotes special teams update:

PP:  25th at 15.0% up from 28th at 12.5% last week.

PK:  10th at 83.3% up from 13th at 80.9% last week.

15.  Countdown to the 2016 World Cup:  300 days (Sept. 17-Oct. 1 in Toronto).  How many Coyotes do you think will be in this tournament?

Arizona Hockey Talk is looking for Arizona Coyotes, ASU Sun Devils, and local minor hockey writers.  If you or somebody you know is interested, please contact us.
