Random Thoughts On The Arizona Coyotes: August 4

If you liked it then share it.

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL that crossed my mind this past week –

Instead of being serious all the time and writing a commentary or an opinion piece we will jot down some random musings once a week.  It might be a mix of serious, playful or maybe even a little sarcastic but it should be fun.  If you have answers please let us know.

1.  I wonder how many Keith Yandle trade rumors we will have to endure this upcoming season?

2.  Is this the year Brandon Gormley becomes a full-time NHL defenceman?

3.  Who has a better chance of making the Arizona Coyotes roster this season? Brendan Perlini, Max Domi or Henrik Samuelsson?

4.  Can Sam Gagner find that “next level” after getting a fresh start with the Coyotes in 2014-15?

5.  Are the Arizona Coyotes good enough to finish in the Top 3 in the Pacific Division?

Keith _Yandle-2

Will the Keith Yandle rumors continue?

6.  Have you ever been up to Prescott Valley to watch the Central Hockey League’s Arizona Sundogs play?  If not, what are you waiting for?  It is good, affordable, professional hockey so trust me you’ll have a good time.

7.  Is it just me or did you like the Devan Dubnyk signing this off-season?

8.  Who is going to replace Radim Vrbata’s (51 pts.) and Mike Ribeiro’s (47 pts.) offence this season?

9.  Based on a tough Central Division will the Coyotes need to finish in the Top 3 in the Pacific Division to make the playoffs? (see question #5)

10.  Looking at the Coyotes defensive corp on paper, do you think this group can withstand the rigors of the tough Western Conference?

Now some of these questions are serious, some are just tongue in cheek and some are me just being a   😈 😆 💡 _________. (you fill in the blank)

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.  I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.

Thanks, Mitch

  1. Tom Knecht says:

Yands is only real trade bait for top scorer from a market standpoint and cap relief perspective. Downside is we will have to depend on a young defensive corp. Yandle also very reliable not to get hurt. Can’t remember last game he did not play? Lots to consider. Thats why we are armchair GM’s! I suspect we will know by beginning of season. Need to have 2-3 youngsters step up huge at camp. If so I say Yands stays.

    • Mitch Kasprick says:

I tend to agree Tom. I think the Yotes might float his name out there periodically to test the waters but he would have to be traded go for a solid, front line forward that’s still in his prime and cost effective. I don’t see Yandle being moved for “futures” but I could be wrong, it’s been known to happen! LOL

  2. Kyle Canfield says:

    @PhxHockTalk
1)100+ but hope @ArizonaCoyotes DON’T trade future Norris trophy finalists @Keith3Yandle (he will get 75+ points again this season and contract value proven by @PKSubban1)
    2)yes & @Cmurphy5
    3)@Hsamuelsson1994
4)not likely but will get 40+pts
5)if @MikeSmithsHair/@MikeNotSmith41 stands on his head
    6)yes @ArizonaSundogs! #ThatWasAwesome
    7)@SBurkie1 makes any goalie great
    8)@89SGagner & @Mikkelboedker
9)#4 seed will also make the playoffs
    10)#HellYES

    • Mitch Kasprick says:

good answers Kyle … #8 keep in mind Boeds has to hit his 51 points first (from last year) before him and Gagner can start working on Vrbata’s & Ribeiro’s 51 & 47 points. #9 somebody in the Central will have to take a step backwards from last year, maybe Colorado? L.A. & Anaheim should be 1 & 2 in the Pacific, but the rest is up in the air. S. J. might regress.
