Random Thoughts On The Arizona Coyotes: Feb. 9

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the National Hockey League and our Arizona Coyotes.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes were 1-1-1 record this week … 3 out of 6 points!

2.  The Detroit Red Wings can still pack the house at the local barn can’t they?

3.  The Yotes just finished their longest road trip in franchise history (8 games) with a very respectable 3-3-2 record with an injury depleted roster.

4.  In my opinion, the Coyotes should have got more for Devin Dubnyk than a 3rd round draft pick.  He has single handily resurrected their playoff hopes!

5.  I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the play of Coyotes defenceman Andrew Campbell since his recall from the AHL.

6.  The Arizona Coyotes are 3rd in the “Connor McDavid/Jack Eichel Sweepstakes” also known as the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

7.  The upside of the Coyotes not being a playoff contender is that they are getting a good look at their prospects from the AHL Portland Pirates.

8.  Only 22 more days to the NHL Trade Deadline.

9.  Connor Murphy is slowly gaining my trust.  He is still prone to mistakes that young defence make but I think he is steadily improving his play in tough situations.  I can honestly say I didn’t feel that way a couple months ago.

10.  Andrew Campbell, Lucas Lessio, Brendan Shinnimin and others are getting some valuable NHL playing time in their bid for full-time employment next season.  (see #7)

11.  The Good News:  The Arizona Coyotes PP is ranked #6 running at 22.2%.

12.  The Bad News:  The Arizona Coyotes PK dropped to #27 at 77.6%.

LET’S GO YOTES

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.

Thanks, Mitch

  1. Number 5 is right on!

Also it’s not “Detroit” Red Wings who can fill the house. It’s “Phoenix” Red Wings can fill the house.
If you go out today, you’ll see 75% of that “Detroit” crowd out enjoying their Arizona weather along with their neighbors who may wear Coyotes gear out in the 80 degree sun.
Hopefully, those Phoenix Red Wing fans will one day start showing up for more than one game a year and help keep NHL hockey in the valley .

there is no doubt that teams like Detroit and Chicago have their snow bird support & I agree it would be nice if they came to a few more games …. all Detroit & Chicago games should be sold in 4 game mini-packs … LOL … that’s what Nashville does to Chicago fans but the Yotes can’t afford to alienate ant ticket buyer!
