Random Thoughts On The Arizona Coyotes: Oct. 13

If you liked it then share it.

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some of the things that rattled through my head about the NHL and our Arizona Coyotes this past week.

1.  The Coyotes finished their first week in the NHL with a 1-1 record.  Thoughts?

2.  Congrats to Devan Dubnyk on his first WIN in a Coyotes uniform.

3.  I believe Sam Gagner needs to be playing in the Arizona Coyotes “Top 6” forwards.

4.  I think the Coyotes defensive corp, as it is currently constructed is going to really struggle in physical games.

5.  Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a beauty in OT vs the Kings on Saturday night!

Mikkel Boedker

Mikkel Boedker has 2 goals in 2 games!

6.  Mike Smith let in 2 soft goals in the first period vs Winnipeg.  Should Yotes be concerned?

7.  Would Sam Gagner be better served as a winger with the 2 Martins?

8.  IMO … Keith Yandle struggled in the first 2 games.

9.  Martin Hanzal won an impressive 21 out of 30 face-offs vs L.A. and won 8 of 9 vs Winnipeg!

10.  Mikkel Boedker is off to a nice start with goals in each of the Yotes first 2 games.

Some of these questions are serious, some are just tongue in cheek and some are me just being a _________.  (you fill in the blank)

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.  I am a curious person by nature and I need answers. Thanks, Mitch  Use the “Comment Section” below.

Coyotes hockey played Saturday fun to watch. My concern is the effort it takes to play this way is so hard can the team come to play each game with this effort? The teams that do win the cup , this is the challenge .
Don’t understand playing Murphy over Schlemco.
Hope the new owner will allow GM to offer money to a top 3 forward.
Check out the draft report on Bleacher report on how picks outside the top 10 don’t make top 6 .
Conclusion was , Teams that finish in the middle of the pack don’t have draftees that make a difference and hard to make improvements.
Gagner not in shape , lets wait and see when he can play 20 minutes a game to determine his effectiveness.
Smith can’t feel uncomfortable , What kind of comment was that to hear after the first game. Come on , yes I am concerned .

The sad truth is this team goes as far as their goaltending will take them, like most teams. The Yotes aren’t going to be able to score their way out of trouble, especially on the road.

There have been great players drafted in later rounds (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Benn, Rinne, etc) but most impact, generational players are top picks (1-5).

Am I back to the start of the 2013-2014 season?
Scoring goals but giving up too many.
Defense wins games , Yotes give up too many turnovers,
We better get back to defense first.
BTW teams with speed will give us trouble.

Hey TC …. I think playing a better defensive game requires some physicality and I don’t think this group of defencemen has the DNA for that. The Yotes back-end is soft !!!

    What an awful night .
The night started out disappointing when I look forward to a taste of home by having Tim Horton’s cup of French vanilla coffee and they are out before the game starts. How can they not have inventory on hand?
Oh well I guess they felt the low turn out wasn’t going to want a cup of coffee.
The game was ugly. Boy to the Yotes have work to do. They didn’t have a pray . They looked like a bunch of beer league players chasing the puck around. No structure, giving up too much time and space to the Blues and no contact. Blues were too big and fast for the Yotes. Seems we were playing like a man down all game and 4 Blues PP goals WOW . I am a season ticket member as they call us now coming from Prescott Valley sure doesn’t make me feel good on the drive back up the mountain.
The team better make a commitment to compete and the fans better show up before the owners decide AZ is not a good hockey market after all. the last chance for hockey in AZ

Another poor game by every Coyote player last night.
They were a step behind the Tampa players . They gave up had too much time and space allowing Tampa to control the entire ice.
Are the Coyotes players that much worst than the competition?
Seems they are waiting for others to do something.

That was very hard to watch …. we’re too soft in our own end and Mike Smith is melting down.

        Another loss first in November
Our playoff hopes will be determined this month 15 games in 30 days
Must go 10 and 5 our else it’s a rebuilding year at a time the when there was a much anticipated positive outlook from fans, and owners.
I am starting to believe in a culture of losing. Winnipeg, Coyotes, Atlanta, maybe it will never change.

  5. Well
Attended last nights game vs Calgary with a couple of Calgarians.
What a poor performance. Was one of the worst I have seen from a pro team in years.
No energy no fight lost very battle . You could tell there is something missing in this team.
Reider was the only one with effort .
If I were the owner I would have a strong heart to heart with the team and if there is no change in effort start waiving players. As a season ticket holder if the team plays with energy and lose I’ll be back but the way they lost last night I
don’t feel like going to another game.
