Random Thoughts On The Arizona Coyotes: Apr. 13

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the National Hockey League and our Arizona Coyotes.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes finished their season with a 0-3-0 record last week … 0 points!

2.  Congrats to OEL being named the team’s MVP and scoring leader.

3.  Congrats to Tobias Reider on being named the Yotes “Rookie of the Year”.

4.  Congrats to Michael Stone on being named Coyotes “Man of the Year”.

5.  Congrats to Mike Smith who won the “Three Stars Award”.  Some nights Smitty was all they had.

6.  The Arizona Coyotes finished in the 2nd to last position in the “Connor McDavid/Jack Eichel Sweepstakes” also known as the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

7.  Reminder:  The official Draft Lottery is being held this Saturday, April 18 and will be shown on the NBC Sports Network during the 1st period intermission.  It could be a HUGE day in Coyotes franchise history!

8.  I had to laugh at Dave Tippet lamenting the fact that this season was extremely frustrating, yadda, yadda, yadda.  But at least he was getting paid to watch that gong show all year long while us fans had to PAY to watch it.  Who do you think was more frustrated Tipp?

9.  The playoffs are starting on Wednesday.  Who are you pulling for now that the Yotes are done?

10.  The Coyotes “special teams” rankings don’t make any sense.  A goal scoring challenged team operates the 7th ranked PP at 20% but yet a team that prides itself on hard work and defensive play had the 29th ranked PK running at a 76.7. In fairness, there was a lot of changes on the back end and Smitty’s goaltending was less than stellar pre-March/April.

11.  Best moment of the year was soldier returns home to surprise family during puck drop.

12.  I wonder how many Coyotes will be invited to represent their respective countries at the World Hockey Championships later this month in the Czech Republic … Mike Smith ??? … OEL ???

13.  There was some talk that Dave Tippett had an “out” clause in his contract and he might exercise it this off-season but based on his interviews it sounded to me like he’ll be back next year.  He used a lot of future tense in his answers.

14.  PP update:  The Arizona Coyotes PP finished the season ranked #7 running at 20.0%.

15.  PK update:  The Arizona Coyotes PK dropped  two more spots to finish the year ranked #29 running at 76.7%.

LET’S GO YOTES

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.

Thanks, Mitch
