Random Thoughts On The Arizona Coyotes: Apr. 27

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the National Hockey League and our Arizona Coyotes.

1.  The 2015 IIHF  World Hockey Championships start May 1 in the Czech Republic and the Arizona Coyotes should have seven players participating.

2.  Did you know that the final hockey seedings for the Olympic games are based on the results of previous IIHF World Hockey Championships.

3.  Should the Arizona Coyotes tap the London Knights pipeline again and draft 18 year old Mitch Marner at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft with their third overall pick?

4.  Connor Murphy, John Moore, and forward Mark Arcobello have been invited to play for Team U.S.A. 2015 IIHF World Championships.  (see #1)

5.  After the dust had settled from Don Maloney’s wheeling and dealing, the Yotes will have 2 draft choices in the 1st round, 2 choices in the 2nd round, 2 choices in the 3rd round, and 1 choice in each of the 5th and 7th rounds.

6.  The Arizona Coyotes AHL affiliate (Portland Pirates) are trailing the LA Kings AHL affiliate (Manchester Monarchs) 2-1 in their best of 5 first round playoff series.

7.  Mike Smith (Canada), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Sweden), Tobias Rieder (Germany), Martin Erat (Czech Republic) will also be going to the Czech Republic to represent their respective countries at the WHC.  (see no. 4)

8.  The Calgary Flames sure didn’t take very long getting back into the post-season after a quick tear-down and re-build.  There’s hope Yotes fans.

9.  What did you think of the “Whiteout” in Winnipeg during games 3 and 4 of the Ducks/Jets series?

10.  I still haven’t gotten over the disappointment of the Coyotes dropping to 3rd in the draft lottery and missing out on Jack Eichel.

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.

Thanks, Mitch

As for your 3rd question, the field after McDavid and Eichel seems fairly wide open.. Marner’s stats were fabulous, as were a number of other players, ie. Strome’s and Hanifin.. (Hanifin,if we need more defence) I don’t think it’s an argument!!

Being from Manitoba I got a first hand feel of the deafening ‘whiteout’ noise it produces.. Wpg fans love their team and it’s very evident!
Keep the whiteouts coming, it’s a great tradition!!

  2. #3 No, I think Strome is our guy. He’s kind of a sleeper.
#6 Go Coyotes affiliate. Beat L.A. affiliate.
#8 Maybe we should have kept Treliving. 😉
#9 Love the Whiteout, but it’s ridiculous to do it wearing dark jerseys (I feel the same way about us doing it. Bring back the Whites.)

I agree, it’s hard to come by centers and Strome is a pretty good one … but he needs to work a bit on his skating … good hands, great passer with a decent shot.
