Is There An Upside To A Bad Arizona Coyotes Season?

Finding a silver lining in the Arizona Coyotes 2014/15 season –

All is not lost Coyotes fans.

It would be an understatement to say that so far the 2014/15 season for the Arizona Coyotes isn’t what the management, coaching staff, players or the fans had expected.  This Coyotes team only missed the playoffs by two points last season and they probably would have made the post-season if it wan’t for a couple of untimely injuries to key players down the stretch so being a playoff team this season wasn’t a stretch by any means.

There is no sense delving into the off-season and early season woes.  They are well documented but as it stands now this season and this team is … what it is. BUT it’s not a complete loss.

Silver lining #1

Coach Dave Tippett can’t possibly be enjoying this season but there is a silver lining.  He is getting a good look at his prospects from their AHL affiliate in Portland.  Players like Andrew Campbell, Lucas Lessio, Jordan Martinook Brendan Shiniminn and others are getting very valuable playing time at the NHL level which can only help in their quest for full-time employment next season.

Silver lining #2

The Arizona Coyotes have a pretty decent core that includes Martin Hanzal, Mikkel Boedker, Shane Doan, Tobias Reider, Sam Gagner, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Connor Murphy, Michael Stone, Keith Yandle and Mike Smith so a full blown tear down and rebuild probably isn’t needed here.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is the leader of a pretty decent Coyotes core group

Silver lining #3

The future for the Arizona Coyotes looks promising when you look at prospects like Max Domi, Brandon Gormley, Henrik Samuelsson, Brendan Perlini and Christian Dvorak.  Next years training camp should see a couple of their younger players ready to become full-time Arizona Coyotes.

Silver lining #4

Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel are the prized prospects in this years draft and are projected to be franchise changing generational players.  The next wave of prospects include high-end players like Dylan Strome, Noah Hanifan and Mitchell Marner.   The Arizona Coyotes are going to get a high-end player in this years 2015 NHL Entry Draft so that’s another bit of a silver lining.

Like I said earlier, all is not lost Coyotes fans!

  1. Absolutely no upside.
The worst case scenario has happened to a team that had to do things to draw at least a not so embarrassing fan base.
I won’t blame the team or he coaches or anything else…
For the first time in 3 years, I got into a shouting match with a Rangers fan going on and on with a lady who was attending her first game and had a Coyotes sweater on.
It was about attendance of course and I made my case
Which even I don’t believe anymore.
