Dec. 8 Random Notes On Our Yotes

Things about the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL  that crossed my mind this past week –

Some of my thoughts, some info and notes from the past week about our Arizona Coyotes and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Arizona Coyotes went 0-4-0 last week and continue their five game road trip from hell on Tuesday in St. Louis before playing eight of their next nine games in the friendly confines of Gila River Arena.

2.  I’m sorry but I grew up in an era where a gloved or hand pass was a violation not an assist but that’s Gary’s new and improved NHL.

3.  Is it just me or does Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty look a lot like a younger version of “Modern Family’s” Phil Dunphy?

4.  The Coyotes have claimed Viktor Tikhonov off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks.  He was originally drafted by the Yotes in the first round (28th overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft.

5.  Shane Doan sure has been out of the line-up a long time for a day-to-day injury.  I think his leadership was greatly missed on this disastrous road trip.

6.  The Coyotes gave up FIVE goals in each of their four road games last week and for the most part it wasn’t the goaltenders fault.  It was scary to watch but not even getting a point in the Carolina game when they were leading with five minutes to play really hurt.

7.  Pet Peave:  Video review on those small tablets at the penalty box.  That’s your solution GARY?  All the big HD screens they have in the video control room in Toronto and you have the officials trying to make a decision on an eight inch tablet.  IDIOT!

8.  Now that the Habs have placed Alexander Semin on waivers, I wonder who the next sucker is?

9.  I proposed on my other website that when Winnipeg gets it’s outdoor game I would like to see Jets 2.0 play Jets 1.0.

10.  If the Winnipeg Jets put their captain, Andrew Ladd on the trade block should Coyotes’ G.M. Don Maloney give Kevin Cheveldayoff a call?  Keep in mind that Ladd becomes a UFA this coming July 1st.

11.  Dustin Byfuglien …. same as above.

12.  Bobby Hull must be thinking …. Patrick Kane broke my record with a glove pass?  They can do that now?  Who knew?  (see #2)

13.  If you visit here regularly you may notice in my tone I’m not a fan of Gary Bettman.  That would be putting it very, very, very mildly!

14.  Arizona Coyotes special teams update:

PP:  28th at 15.5%

PK:  13th at 81.4%

15.  Countdown to the 2016 World Cup:  286 days (Sept. 17-Oct. 1 in Toronto).  How many Coyotes do you think will be in this tournament?

  1. I dunno
    Gary Bettman
I won’t pretend to know as much as you about the game, I’m a volunteer fan who “adopted ” the YOTES because I was outraged by bandwagon fans who live here and don’t back their cities club and all the bad press they got especially on the various message boards in the hockey press BUT
After only missing 3 games in 3 years and trying to figure out why this sport ( which is the most exciting team in town no competition!) wasn’t more popular, I found that for the most part, Bettman was the only reason we are still here.
    And I am super glad
But it defies any form of business logic that any business school would teach
Thank goodness he and our owners keep giving the fans of this sport chance after chance to straighten the mess out.
Again, I honestly defer to your better knowledge if the sport
I’m just a disappointed volunteer fan, here for the duration and I thank Bettman for the charity.

I will agree that he did his best to keep hockey here in the valley but for me it goes well beyond that.
